Hello and happy day to you.
After dropping a super depressing bomb on Friday, I thought I would lighten the mood today.
Because, you can only cry for so long right?
Anyway, I have been saving this blog post for the last 4 months for the perfect time…
And apparently, today is the day!
The idea for this blog post came to be back in February when I was running the Surf City Half Marathon.
It was around mile 9 when another runner ran up beside me and shouted “Your form is amazing! You look really strong!”
This was BY FAR one of the nicest things that a fellow runner had ever said to me.
At that point, I still had another 35 minutes until I finished the race and I used that time to think of other nice things that only runners would appreciate.
So here we go…
The nicest things you can say to a runner.
Can I see your race medal?
One of the reasons why I love racing is for the bling, but I totally think it sucks that we only get to wear it at the finish line festival. I love it when my co-workers ask me to bring my medal in for show and tell, it means I get to relish in my success a little bit longer.
I bought some ice for you- I know you have a long run tomorrow and will want to take an ice bath afterwards.
Too many times, I have finished a long run and hobbled over to the freezer to see that I forgot to buy ice the day before at the store. DOH! Wouldn’t it be nice if your significant other, friend, parent, etc. surprised you with a bag of ice?
Tell me how your race went!!!
It’s a known fact, runners love to talk about running. Show your fellow runners some love by asking how their last race went, regardless of whether or not you actually care about their mile splits. Trust me, it will make their day.
Let me help you stretch your calves.
OMG. Having your own personal trainer, physical therapist or stretcher is such a great feeling. Because sometimes having some help is definitely needed.
Let me take the kids, you go for a run.
I don’t have kids, but I am sure hearing these words come from your significant others mouth is like music to your ears.
Can I wait for you at the finish line?
Even if you aren’t a runner, you can still appreciate the hard work and dedication that it takes to finish a race. Support your runner and meet them at the finish line. Knowing that there is someone waiting for you makes the race even more enjoyable (I promise!). Extra credit goes to those who make signs and meet their finisher with flowers.
I washed all of your running clothes, you are ready to go tomorrow!
As many of you know, one of my biggest #runnerprobs is doing laundry or having no running clothes to wear. Wouldn’t it be nice to know that you didn’t have to worry about it?
I would love to go for a run with you.
Runners love to convert other non-runners. Even if you hate running, give it a shot. If anything, it might turn into a fun way to socialize.
Dang! Your (insert running muscle here) is/are so strong.
Runners work hard for their body! Take some time to appreciate their hard work and compliment them on how strong they look. Trust me, you will make their day!
I love talking to you about your running. You never talk about it enough much.
Okay, this one might be a bit of a stretch… because we all know how much runners like to talk about running, but regardless, any runner would love to hear these words.
What do you think?
Did I miss anything?
