9 Feelings to Expect Before Hitting the Starting Line on Race Day

You’ve been training for this moment, and the day has finally arrived!

It’s the morning of your big race and you are experiencing all of the feelings. Here are some of the emotions you will go through as you prepare to make your first strides when the gun goes off. Take it from me, I’ve been there.

Uncertain! Am I prepared? Did I get enough sleep last night? Have I had enough food to keep me fueled? Am I hydrated enough? Should I bring a snack? Why am I doing this again!?

Afraid! The time couldn’t be passing more slowly. All I know is that I do not want to fail. That, and I’m scared to death that the pre-race food I just ate won’t settle well on my tummy. Dear God, not the trots!!! ANYTHING BUT THE TROTS!!!

Nervous! Butterflies are definitely in my stomach. Or is that the pasta from last night?!

Anxious! What if I’m late to the start?! What if I can’t find parking?! Did I get enough sleep?! What if the porta potty line is too long?! What if…..?!

Irritable! I’m getting ready for my race and I can’t be bothered. Seriously. I’m a ticking time bomb. Just let me be.

Excited! Okay, this is actually going to be REALLY fun.

Euphoric! Adrenaline kicks in. OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!

Invincible! I CAN DO ANYTHING. I CAN RUN TEN THOUSAND MILES. I CAN RUN FOREVER. Nothing can stop me.

Empowered! I’m a runner, I am strong, I have trained, and I can do this.

Regardless of how you feel… you have trained hard for this. Trust in that, rely on it… YOU CAN DO THIS!

Cute post…and all true! Funny story: I ran Boston this year, and I woke up with all of those feelings. For the first 2 hours of race day, as I was getting myself to the bus, on the bus etc, all of those thoughts and feelings were running through my head. It wasn’t until I was halfway to the race start that I remembered it was my son’s 20th birthday!!
